Newsletter 23rd October 2009

Dear Parent/Carer

The annual Lake of Menteith Fisheries Kirk and School Fundraiser will take place on Sunday 1st November at 3.30pm. Soup, drinks and a BBQ are all available for the cost of £5 per adult and £1 per child.  The children will be participating in a fishing fly design competition and singing some fishy songs on the day.  Raffle prize donations would be greatly appreciated and can be dropped off at the school by Friday 30th October, or brought on the day.

ERT/Nelson Maths testing

Testing will take place on the week beginning 2nd November 2009.  This allows for benchmarking of pupil progress in Primaries 3, 5 and 7 in reading and maths.  The assessments provide a useful overview for teachers of pupils’ areas of strength and areas for improvement.

Parent Council Meeting

The next Parent Council Meeting will take place at the school on Tuesday 3rd November at 7pm.  This meeting will include a presentation on Glow and all parents/carers are welcome to attend.

Fundraising Meeting

This will be held at the school on Wednesday 4th November at 3.30pm, and will look at planning the Christmas Fayre to be held on Saturday 28th November.  Please come along to help us organise this festive event, or submit your ideas/offers by email to the school.

Rugby Festival

As a follow up to the rugby taster sessions, McLaren High School is hosting a rugby festival on the morning of Thursday 5th November for Primaries 4, 5, 6 and 7 children.  This event is organised by Active Schools, and will be attended by children from across the cluster.

Staff Development Days

These will take place on Monday 9th November and Tuesday 10th November.  The school will be closed on these dates as staff look at further implementation of Curriculum for Excellence.

Rag Bag Collection sacks have now been sent home to allow you to gather all your unwanted textiles.  Further sacks are available if required.  The collection will take place from the school on Wednesday 11th November. Please bring your sacks to the school that morning.

Parent consultation evenings will be held on Thursday 12th November as an opportunity for you to discuss your child’s progress with the class teacher.  Appointment times are attached.  If your appointed time does not suit please contact the school to rearrange.

Road Safety week

This will take place on the week beginning 16th November.  The children will be working with the local Road Safety Officer, and will be studying the Green Cross Code, revising making decisions involving traffic, and looking at some of the national statistics, all of which will involve the key message of being seen and being safe.

School Photo

The school photographer will be visiting us on Tuesday 17th November at 11am. Photos can be taken on an individual or family basis.  More details will be issued shortly.
